OtherLa Restinga lagoon is a National Park with beautiful canals of mangroves. It is one of the few places in the world where the ibis escarlata - a red-feathered stork - can be found. Margarita is a haven for bird-watchers. Boat trips are provided through the mangroves, and horse riding is popular on the deserted sands. Churches play an important part in the lives of the people of Margarita. Each town has its own patron saint and there are many beautiful churches throughout the island.
